Our client, a leading Global Shipping Company, NYSE listed, is looking for a driven Accountant to join their team.

Accountant (Ref:4294/AC/ESS/GR)

Position Profile:

  • Responsible for accounts payable entries, reconciliations, handling of invoices and other General Accounting related tasks.
  • Participate in accounting & financial reporting process (book keeping, accounts ledger entries, payroll, taxation submission).
  • Ensure all assigned reconciliations are prepared and reviewed accurately and submitted in line with corporate criteria.
  • Participate in the financial closing process including reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and accruals posting
  • Contribute in other accounting and business finance duties (preparation/monitoring of Budget, Financial Forecasting, Operating Plan).
  • Participate in the preparation of quarterly and on spot presentations related to vessels’ operating expenses, including internal and external benchmarking.
  • Monitor all present and future company obligations in respect to the maintenance of books and records in compliance with tax regulations.
  • Accountable for bookings for the vessels’ payroll and MGA accounts and for the lubricants ROB and consumption.
  • Periodically prepare payments for the vendors and the Authorities.
  • Communicate with the authorities and file required documentation related to VAT, tonnage tax etc.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors regarding SOX 404 requirements.

Job Requirements

Candidate Profile:

  • University degree in Accounting, Economics or other relevant discipline
  • 3-5 years working experience in a similar position in Accounting/ Auditing of Shipping companies NYSE listed
  • Good knowledge of maritime chart of accounts, financial accounting & IFRS, social security / tax requirements, status and requirements of companies under law 27/1975
  • Accounting System literate and ability to understand and interpret financial statements
  • ACCA Certified
  • PC literacy and very good knowledge of the use of ERP systems
  • Fluency in English
  • Organizational and Communications skills
  • Ownership, adaptability and tenacity
  • Pragmatic approach, with attention to detail
  • Hands on, results and deadline oriented
